About Otto Baum

Otto Baum (b. 1979, East Berlin) studied textile and surface design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, and now lives and works in Berlin.

He is currently creating stunning videos of himself making murals, usually large format, geometric and monochromatic while testing his latest OttoTools. OttoTools are his investigation of trying out various everyday tools for large-format painting mediums. He usually uses wooden slats, a few brushes, and screws and combines them into a new painting tool.

Hand lettering and abstract painting

Otto holds multiple accounts for his art practice, ranging from prints to objects to murals and letterforms. He calls a project of much of his hand lettering work “Wallphabets,” a hybrid of alphabets written directly onto walls. For him, it’s about the craft itself, the shape of the letters, and transferring them analogously to the wall, so he practices his skills with the brush to draw these beautiful writings by hand.

Baum is fascinated by simple forms, the feel, and the structure of materials such as wood and paper. He is interested in how unpredictable analog printing techniques such as linocuts or monotypes can be.

About Matthew Willman

Born in South Africa in 1979, Matthew Willman still lives there while traveling worldwide for his photography. “My work reflects an innate desire to understand how we relate to the real and imaginary worlds we inhabit, especially the role body language plays in expressing emotions and telling stories, ” he says.

Willman specializes in creating rare images.

As Annie Lennox rightly said “Matthew is passionately connected to the complexity of his existence…. he connects with his passion…the rest just follows”

Willman served as commissioned photographer for 10 years to Nelson Mandela, building a remarkable library of images detailing the incredible life and times of Nelson Mandela. He holds the last private portrait works of Mandela regarded as the most intimate photographic collection in the world. As a documenter his vast experience has built a magnificient body of rare works that also include private commissions with Barack Obama, Annie Lennox, The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu to name a few.

To meet Willman is to meet the world!  Now for the first time Willman is lighting a bale fire for collectors and those who see opportunity in owning and trading in unique NFT photographic fine art work.

Over time Willman will reveal his collections, creating an individual voice and strong narrative of each image.  Only the most celebrated fine art photographs are being released.

The human being inspires Matthew profoundly in all its shapes and conditions. Exploring body language compels him to travel the world, working to date in 48 countries, photographing people and places and communities to deepen issues like who we are and how we shape ourselves.

Following is an exclusive interview with Matthew Willman for Hue&Eye.

Hello Matthew. When or how have you understood you wanted to become an artist?

I have been into art since I was 12 years old. I grew out of being a ballet dancer into photography. Both disciplines have the human-being and their body language in common indeed.

Matthew Willman

And how would you like people to engage with your art?

My main interest is to explore the human condition in all its forms. So I’d say that I want to see the human story and reactions my creations may generate.

Can you briefly say something about your creative technique and tell us what drives you to make art?

Photography is how I communicate, how I touch and feel others. I use the image to share stories of who we are and what we shape ourselves to be.

Matthew WillmanMatthew Willman

Matthew WillmanWhich artist primarily inspires your work? And is there something else, outside visual arts, that keeps you motivated?

Herb Ritts, Ruven Afanador, Patrick Demarchelier to name a few. Outside of photography, dance and history encourage depth and motivate my research.

As a digital artist, do you feel you’ve been waiting for something like NFTs for a long time?

YES, no question about it. It’s the first time I can make my work eventually unique, one of one. It’s my ultimate goal.

Matthew WillmanAnd how do you see the NFT world will benefit your professional career?

The NFT Art marketplaces are the first platforms where I can combine a powerful narrative with creativity and iconic or historical images.

Spread the word! Do you have anything exciting on the horizon or something special you wish to share?

I am currently launching The Willman Collection of 1/1 NFTs and stories, from Barack Obama to Nelson Mandela, Ballet to nudes.

About Charlie Moon

Charlie (Charlotte) Moon began refining her craft in digital image editing and vector graphics software from a young age and later studied fashion design in Amsterdam, keeping her love for digital art alive.

Alongside her art, Charlie Moon founded an international business focused on social media and content creation. Using her skills in storytelling and digital platforms, she helps businesses and individuals create engaging content that connects with people worldwide.

Charlie Moon

Hello Charlie. When or how have you understood you wanted to become an artist?

I was born for this.

Can you briefly tell us about your technique and what drives you to make art?

I’m hypersensitive to shapes and colors. When I’m experiencing an emotion and close my eyes, I see shapes and colors related to the emotion. Sometimes I paint, sometimes I draw digitally, sometimes I prompt. Technique rooms in being intuitive. I am addicted to colors and shapes as I can go hard on them!

Charlie Moon

What is the main feature that has changed in your works or practice throughout the years?

I went from traditional painting to digital drawing and now I am into prompting. I LOVE technology and its developments!

Which artist primarily inspires your work? And is there something else, outside visual arts, that keeps you motivated?

I never get inspired by other artists. I get motivated by femininity, animals, and nature. And the power within humans. Mama-earth is my source. It sounds like a clichè, but it’s true.

How would you like people to engage with your work?

I want to offer people the same feeling I get from shapes and colors. It’s dopamine!

Charlie Moon Charlie Moon

Spread the word! Do you have anything exciting on the horizon?

I will sell NFTs via Foundation soon and start presenting my work in the first-ever virtual museum in the Metaverse.

The Hybrid Minds project swiftly found its collector in the NFT ecosystem with its first edition and keeps on evolving with the participation of artists all over the world. The project’s new collaboration, “Crimson Fumes,” is about the story of a character coming from the fantasy worlds created by Reza Afshar.

5 NFT Artists of 2023 it is worth following

There are many NFT Artists of 2023 to mention, but as the year is ending, fellows of the NFT space look forward to a vast assortment of unique art from some of Web3’s most noteworthy creators.

The following is a selection of NFT artists we believe caused an impact in 2023.

These NFT Artists of 2023 are creators from disparate sectors of the NFT market to help readers diversify their social feeds over the next year, and each is a creator of culture that deserves to be recognized.

Cath Simard

Cath Simard is a Canadian-born photographer, digital artist and a central figure in the NFT community. One of the most prominent artists in NFT photography, she’s now almost entirely focused on NFTs.

Simard blends reality and imagination in her landscape composites. Collectors instantly recognize her aesthetic – surreal, cold, blue, mountain nights. Her innovative style and willingness to take bold risks are a result of her desire to be unique.

A self-professed introvert, Cath feels she produces her best work when she’s alone in the mountains.

To create a single image, she’s walked as much as 250 kilometers, trekked 18 days in the mountains and shot at an elevation as high as 5,900 meters. Due to her lengthy creative process, Cath only creates and releases 5-7 images a year.

She created the world’s first image to have its rights released after its 1/1 NFT sale on the blockchain: #freehawaiiphoto. As one of the top NFT artists in the world, Simard has continued to advocate for fair compensation and recognition for artists while also using her imaginative composite images to raise environmental awareness. Having been auctioned off by both Sotheby’s and Christie’s in 2022, she is surely poised to continue her admirable mission over the next year.

Daniel Isles (Dirty Robot)

Daniel Isles is a UK born illustrator based in Hokkaido, Japan. His preferred tools are pencil and ink, which allow him to create clean lines in a unique style.

He is deeply inspired by eastern and western cultures, that he combines to great effect to create highly original pieces. The focus of his work often depicts characters wearing interestingly-cool attire in moments of time. There is also a sense of spirituality about them and the world they inhabit.

He continues achieving sizeable sales throughout the entire year with his own 1/1s, making him a definite one to follow in 2023.

Emonee LaRussa

Emonee LaRussa, a 27-year-old digital artist from Sacramento, California, made visuals for Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, and the Internet. Today, her colorful, psychedelic animations are part of the GRAMMYS x OneOf NFT partnership.

You might recognize her from her YouTube channel, her Emmy Award-winning animation, or the excellent tutorial she did for some online MoGraph school. Emonee is also the founder and CEO of Pamanama Studios LLC., an animation studio specializing in music visuals by diverse digital artists, specifically artists of color.

Grant Yun

Grant Yun is a man of many hats.

Despite being a medical student by day and a break dancer by night, the Milwaukee resident has managed to make his mark on the digital art market with six-figure sales and auctions at Christie’s and Sotheby’s. His Neo-Precisionist artwork frequently explores landscapes and scenery native to the Midwest and has become instantly recognizable in the NFT space.

In 2022, Grant Yun emerged as somewhat of a poster child for fine art NFTs. While he insists that his entrance into the NFT space was somewhat of a leap of faith, his Neo-Precisionist style continues to stand out in the now PFP-saturated NFT market.

Markus Magnusson

In the same vein as Bad Robot, the 2022 PFP market would’ve been nothing without digital artist and animator Markus Magnusson. Known professionally as Motion Markus, his slick, clean animation style has garnered hundreds of thousands of fans across social media. Although his 1/1s consistently fetch a pretty penny, Magnusson is best known in the NFT space as the creator of the popular large-scale generative avatar collection Invisible Friends. With his new project Garbage Friends on the horizon, his sway within the PFP NFT market has only seemed to increase, prompting countless imitators to follow in his footsteps.

Work Style

It is remarkable how Daria takes inspiration from the Bauhaus movement, the world’s first design school founded by German architect Walter Gropius. The Bauhaus was probably the most influential architectural movement in the 20th century, and Daria’s work is its comprehensive study.

She knows the harmony between shapes and colors, like the combination of pure geometry with a unique execution that defines her work, and her starting point is to explore and understand the entire space rather than focus on details. After doing so, she moves further to the palette choice – a process for which she takes her time to experiment. At last, she will start playing with forms and objects to find the chased harmony and balance.

Her style hints at big names such as Le Corbusier, Matisse, and Charlotte Perriand, though each piece of her work stands out for its modern design.

Daria Zinovatnaya is an international designer who has already worked on commercial and residential projects. For instance, in 2017, she won the Red Dot Award, a renowned international design competition. As for today, she appears in some of the most influential design magazines worldwide, such as AD, Casa Vogue Ell Decor, and Grazia, to mention a few.

The Story of Lucrezia

Undeadlu is Lucrezia, born in 1995 in Italy, where she still lives and works.

Lucrezia has drawn since she was a child; being this her passion, she would have studied art to create her future, but her parents refused her to do so. They always disagreed on how art could be a reliable job choice but rather a hobby that won’t deliver financial safety. Later, Lucrezia went on a degree in mechanics and eventually hated it.

Feeling unapproved and demoralized was starting to become her daily routine.

Her parent’s thoughts, while frustrating her, also somehow fortified Undeadlu’s love for drawing as she decided to enter the world of tattooing and worked in a studio for some time.

Soon, she realized that the studio was mainly a money machine where art was at the bottom of their priorities, a conclusion that pushed her to leave.

“I saw a world where the money comes before human relationships and where someone legitimizes stealing the work of others (in this case mine), justifying it with the phrase ‘Come on, it’s just a drawing. You can’t get mad!’ Well, no. It’s not just a drawing, but that’s another story.” she explains on her website.

About Oleg Gryshchenko

Oleg Gryshchenko is a Ukrainian artist and co-founder of Pictoric. He loves the ancient art and style of engraving. It is exciting for him to work with it, using the capabilities of modern graphic editors. Oleg likes to refer to historical and cultural artifacts in his works. His most successful work is a series depicting mythological stories about real Ukraine’s struggle against the Russian aggressor. They have been successful and received many positive reviews at international exhibitions he has held since the beginning of the invasion.

Check Oleg’s work on Behance, or here or here to learn more and support >

Oleg Gryshchenko

What is Pictoric?

Pictoric is an online platform and community of illustrators and creatives to fight against Russian aggression in Ukraine. They collect and create illustrations, posters, and comic books to support Ukraine and its people, convey accurate information, and inspire the world to fight for freedom and democracy.

What is Warline?

WARLINE became the first Pictoric project in the NFT sphere. It is a chronology of the Ukrainian history of modern times, set in stone. The NFTs are facts accompanied by personal reflections. The formula of each NFT is clear and straightforward: each token is a real news piece from an official source and an illustration from Ukrainian and international artists.

For its 8th drop, the Warline collection by META HISTORY created a collaboration with Pictoric, the largest community of Ukrainian illustrators, graphic designers, and artists, which includes more than 700 works.

Interview with the founder of the Ukrainian art community Pictoric, Oleg Gryshchenko.

Pictoric, the largest community of Ukrainian illustrators, graphic designers, and artists, created 50 works of art for Warline, the largest charity NFT collection about war.

The collection, which includes more than 700 works, became the first Pictoric project in the NFT sphere. The team of META HISTORY museum, which creates Warline, invited the community to bring the level of work in the collection to a qualitatively new level. To do NFTs it’s not only a symbol of gratitude to buyers whose money helps Ukraine but also a valuable collector’s item, which will increase in price in the future. It fits the goal of Pictoric, whose founders strive to represent Ukraine in the international arena with worthy artistic projects. The NFT art, which is at the peak of discussion for the third year, must be addressed by any organization operating on the cultural front.

The co-founder of Pictoric, Oleg Hryshchenko, speaks about the collaboration designed to portray Ukraine better.

Why did you choose Warline to support Ukraine?

We have made more than 50 exhibitions in different countries of the world together with Pictoric partners. All of them were in a more traditional format. We understand that to disseminate information about events in Ukraine. We must use all opportunities. Each of us now spends a lot of time online. Accordingly, art must also adapt and find its audience where it is convenient to interact with art. And if the popularity of NFT looks like a chance to win the support of hundreds of thousands of people in our fight for independence, why not use it to say something important? Therefore, Pictoric cooperates with META HISTORY, entering a new niche – art combined with the most modern technologies.

What exactly did you like about the concept of META HISTORY?

We wanted to find a project for partnership, the idea of which would not be superficial. There are a lot of initiatives. However, they appear and disappear without attracting the viewer’s attention in the future. A strong concept is needed to stay in the audience’s field of vision in the long term to claim their affection.

META HISTORY has it: clear, transparent, needed by society, with the potential to enter the state’s history. After all, it is necessary to document and tell about the events. And about the authors who create this chronicle for future generations. It is also essential to attract money to help Ukraine. We support these goals and want to be with the team that achieves them.

Do you think Pictoric, along with META HISTORY, will make it?

Warline is an incredibly relevant project. And with the war’s end, it will not lose its relevance. On the contrary, its value will increase in the future. After all, our victory is inevitable. And in the future, more artists will be willing to join the struggle. At least to learn about its history is to know about Ukraine’s path, changing itself and the world. So all that is required of us, by and large, is to continue to capture history for the future, making full use of the talent of the artists. Time will do the rest: the fog of war will dissipate, the truth will be revealed, and propaganda will be defeated.

Does it matter that META HISTORY is an NFT project?

I am now more of an observer who joins individual conceptual projects with interest. It is also the first full-fledged NFT project for Pictoric Warlinethat we implemented. But in general, new opportunities in art are attractive to me. They mean development and moving forward, thanks to the evolution of technology. There is an opinion that art is dead and nothing new appears. But no – art continues to find new forms and possibilities. As an artist, it keeps me in shape and excites me as a connoisseur. However, I have yet to purchase any NFT jobs. For now, my job is to create it.

In your opinion, which art actions are the most effective for communicating with the world about Ukraine?

If we talk about our experience and those projects in the Pictoric curatorial group with Olena Staranchuk and Anna Sarvira, the most successful was the tough campaigns. By combining the efforts of illustrators, journalists, and cultural managers, we reach the widest audience and receive feedback and support that allow us to develop the project further.

One of the best examples today is the project “Even in dark times, there is light,” where we tell visual stories about the struggle of ordinary Ukrainians, where personal initiatives and heroes are volunteers, children, teachers, athletes, and many others. And since each hero has his audience, the project finds a way to reach those people whom we are unlikely to acquire.

What will you personally do after Ukraine’s victory in the war?

I love to travel. Therefore, after the victory, I want to travel through Ukraine. Specifically, de-occupied cities where to implement creative projects and create a new Ukrainian culture.

About Ale Casanova

Ale Casanova (b. 1981) is a Spanish artist with exhibitions around Spain, France, and Norway. His works convey simple scenes with absolute naturalness and crudeness through figures and portraits. Casanova’s artistic practice shows a playfulness with color, where brightness becomes “the fundamental axis.” Most of the time, he creates with oils on fabric.

He shows simple scenes with absolute naturalness and rawness through figures and portraits. The viewer gains many different feelings and questions about what the scene is about, which events it is part of, and the wish to be a part of it.

Choosing to depict nudes to create appeal, he looks for a sense of intimacy to engage the viewer in a private, sensual moment – with no malice whatsoever.

We had an exclusive interview with him, where he explains what does painting truly means to him.

Ale Casanova

Let’s start from the basics. What’s your name, and where have you grown up?

Hola, I’m Ale Casanova. Born, raised, and resident in Valencia, Spain.

When or how have you understood you wanted to become an artist?

I have always painted. But during my adolescence, I understood that I could make one of my skills my profession. A teacher from my high school insisted that I try to take the entrance exams to the University of Fine Arts. That changed my life.

Please briefly describe your technique and tell us what drives you to make art.

I understand painting as a trade, a complex job involving the technical, emotional, and conceptual aspects. But just a job. Believing that painting is more than any other job can lead you to snobbism and pedantry. I work with less or greater success every day, from 6 to 8 hours.

What is the main feature that has changed in your work or practice?

Each painter has a way of seeing the world and approaching painting, two or three focal points around which all his work moves around, technically. Those points stretch as time goes by. In my case, the construction and the reinterpretation of color are exaggerated more and more in my works. Though not consciously.

Which artist primarily inspires your work? And is there something else, outside visual arts, that keeps you motivated?

My primary influence is 19th-century art, mainly the “London School.” Euan Uglow, Paula Rego, Lucian Freud, etc.

How would you like people to engage with your work?

The public identifies with what is their own, with what they know. That is why I consider my work very mundane and “normal,” accessible to the look of the amateur and the connoisseur. No fanfare, naked and simple.

Spread the word! Do you have anything exciting on the horizon?

Fortunately, I continue having commissioned work with galleries and personal clients. Teaching is also a good source of income. Everything together allows me to continue dedicating myself entirely to painting.
