About Alberto Seveso

Alberto Seveso’s story begins in Milan, Italy, where he was born in 1976. Growing up in Sardinia, a region known for its serene landscapes and rich culture, Seveso’s environment undoubtedly shaped his creative mind.

From a young age, Seveso was drawn to the visual arts. Pencils and sketchpads were his constant companions, but it wasn’t just traditional art forms that captured his attention. As a child of the 80s, he was mesmerized by the explosion of graphic design in pop culture—think neon colors, bold typography, and eye-catching album covers.

Alberto Seveso’s Influences from the Digital Era

The rise of the internet and computer graphics in the 90s marked a pivotal point for Seveso. It was a time when technology changed how art could be created and consumed. The fusion of art and technology became his playground, with programs like Photoshop opening up a world of possibilities.

For Alberto Seveso, the transition from traditional mediums to digital art was both challenging and rewarding.

He initially worked with analog techniques, experimenting with photography and graphic design. But it was the allure of digital tools that ultimately pulled him in. Learning to manipulate images digitally was like discovering a new language, one he quickly became fluent in.

His early experiments caught the attention of the online art community. Websites and forums dedicated to graphic design showcased his innovative use of color and form, sparking interest in his work.

Alberto Seveso’s artworks are an explosion of colors and textures that feel organic and otherworldly.

TheDispersionEffect

Seveso is best known for his dispersion technique, where images appear to break apart into vibrant particles. This effect, often used in portraits, feels almost like a burst of creative energy frozen in time.

One of Seveso’s trademarks is blending photography with graphic elements. His portraits often start with real photographs, which he then transforms into surreal compositions using digital tools.

Alberto relies heavily on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, but he’s also known to experiment with 3D modeling software and other design tools to achieve his visionary results.

Over the years, Seveso’s work has found its way into magazines, advertising campaigns, and even album covers, solidifying his status as a modern art icon.

His collaborations with international brands like Adobe, Nikon, and Bacardi have not only expanded his audience but also showcased the versatility of his art.

Seveso’s work in the music industry deserves special mention. From designing vibrant album covers to contributing to music videos, his influence on pop culture is undeniable.

About Soo-Jin Lee

Soo-Jin Lee (SooJin) is an independent Graphic Designer from Seoul, South Korea. She lived in the US for five years studying at the California Institute of the Arts, where she gained a BFA in Graphic Design in 2016.

SooJin likes to explore digital arts, and her technique keens towards both digital and physical experiences. But let’s better understand what this means. She mainly uses Adobe Illustrator and sometimes Photoshop to finalize her artworks. Currently, she is also studying the idea to deepen cinema4D for 3D object elements to create better digital experiences.

Hello Soojin, Where have you grown up?

I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. I lived in America for 5 years, a mix of college and work.

Can you please provide a brief description of what you do or some information about your technique?

I usually use Adobe Illustrator and sometimes Photoshop. But off late, I am trying to also work with Cinema4D for 3d object elements to create better digital experiences.

What inspires you to create art?

I wanted to reimagine our surroundings and approach them with an anti-capitalist lens.

This was the reason I started the self-initiated project, Replica. The idea behind the project was that signs, labels and banners from mundane life can be reinterpreted, and made into memes (partially) through mischievous visual alterations.

How is your day-to-day working process?

Currently, I am working as a freelance designer. The scope of my work is kinda varied from

marketing to illustration for various brands. The marketing aspect, usually includes creating a business pitch deck and social media collaterals. Occasionally, I work on web or app design.

How long have you been working in this field?

I have been working as a freelance designer after a few internships during academic and graduation. So it has been about 3 years.

Which artists have had the greatest influence on your work?

I would love to choose Tim and Eric, an American comedy duo and creators. They inspired me with their absurdist sense of humor and satire and retro aesthetic on their shows they have created.

What inspires your practice outside of visual arts?

Weirdly, I get inspired by street and building signs and ads. And sometimes memes using these signs and symbols. I get an idea and create a design piece from them by visualizing with a bit of nihilism and a sarcastic view.

How would you like people to engage with your work?

I want viewers to feel intrigued by my work, finding similarness and differences from their

daily objects. And at the same time, I hope they induce conflict with what they used to seeing.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I wish to grow and develop myself more as an independent and multidisciplinary designer.

So I hope to deliver and create digital and physical interactive experiences.

About Vasjen Katro

Albanian visual designer Vasjen Katro likes challenges, so he took one named Baugasm. This beautiful ambition is about designing a poster every 365 days of the year. The posters are published daily on his Instagram account, a true visual delight. You won’t be able to stop scrolling.

Katro came to graphic design through music. He was an electronic music producer years ago, and when he signed his first contract with the label, he just wanted to create by himself the artwork for his first EP. At that time, he was into photography and knew about image manipulation, but that was the first time he explored graphic design on a real product.

Today Vasjen Katr doesn’t limit himself to digital tools; he also enjoys using acrylic paint to create patterns and textures for his posters – as you can see in this tutorials.

BAUGASM: A-POSTER-A-DAY

With his most renowned project Bauguasm, Katro wanted to challenge himself to create something new every day, without cheating. He continued designing posters also while in the hospital (with the help of painkillers) recovering from two broken ribs. Creating posters allowed him to explore the vast potential of tools like Photoshop (his favorite), Illustrator, and Cinema 4D.  “Combining different software is the best thing ever because you have unlimited tools to play with and possible combinations.”, he says.

Katro likes to tell everyone that his poster-a-day project started as a crazy idea, but ended up being so much more.

Digital Painting

Painting is an emotional medium for Bang, employed whenever he feels happy or depressed. He draws more often when he wants to escape daily strain or distracting thoughts. The organic form and psychedelic colors reflect the best representation of Bang’s unconscious feelings.

Bang produces everything manually when it comes to personal work by transferring all the random images that pass through his head onto paper. He usually creates his artwork using digital tools, but he will never deny the pencil stroke. Bang values manual sketching and will always consider this his first creative action. After the sketch satisfies his ideas, he will finalize it digitally and then paint it. Recently, I’ve felt uncomfortable with digital work’s textures and expressions. Thus, I have been creating digital work and works by hand, such as acrylic paintings, at the same time.

Keil Space: An Inner and Universal Journey

In the realm of art and healing, Keil Space in Florence stands out as the first art space in the world entirely dedicated to Advanced Art and its applications. The space founded by Samantha Keil, a master in bronze from a long bloodline of artisans linked to the English Crown, welcomes visitors into a true art territory, where they embark on an aesthetic journey through an experiential topography. The path combines the power of visual, sculptural, and figurative art with the realms of sight, smell, and sound, creating a multisensory experience that awakens an inner world, that is often numbed by our fast-paced lives. The first stop of this journey is the room of the three columns, icons of Keil’s thought, followed by the room dedicated to the First Generation Bronze, which masterfully captures the movement and life of primordial beings.

In the next room, the Second Generation Bronze uses light to represent a bridge connecting ancient, present, and future civilizations. Here, Keil, according to art critic Rolando Bellini, has reached a “new level of formative purity.” With her technique, the artist has managed to “sculpt light.” The visit culminates with the works of the New Generation Bronze, which show an unprecedented perspective: the infinitely small bronze becomes immensely large of the cosmos, evoking new visual stimulations and enhancing the psycho-physical well-being of visitors. The peculiarity of Keil Space lies in the care given to the observer: the 500 square meters of exhibition space is designed to accommodate one person at a time. The individual experiences the journey firsthand and engages in a direct dialogue with the space and the works, in a path that fosters personal expression and awareness through art. Keil Space reminds us that art is a powerful tool for connection and personal growth, a continuous journey toward understanding and celebrating our deepest essence. It acts as a safe platform where everyone can feel protected and free to express their perceptions without any barriers of judgment or conditioning. In today’s context of the art system, increasingly elitist, Keil Space is a place dedicated to restoring the accessibility of the art dialogue, rebuilding trust in the observer, and making them the protagonists of the artistic experience. In a contemporary society that favors standardization to increase efficiency and productivity, Keil Space values individuals in quality as human beings, and not as numbers. At the end of the visit, each person is allowed to leave a brief testimony to share their feelings and opinions about the experience.

People from diverse social, geographical, linguistic, and professional backgrounds have visited the space, expressing varied points of view while sharing very similar emotional reactions, demonstrating a common ground that transcends individual differences. Visitor testimonies highlight feelings of peace, light, and tranquility, confirming the therapeutic benefits of art.

From the Audiovisual Archive of Keil Space, various types of testimonies emerge, notably comments from several psychiatrists describing the space as a “stimulus for exploration,” a “dreamlike dimension,” “art as a vehicle for a dialogue about human interiority,” and a “message of trust and self-esteem,” “a new approach to art that encourages contemplation and deep reflection.”

For sector experts, there is no doubt that along with art, science, and technique, there is certainly an emphasis on the therapeutic power of art.

Advanced Art: The Art that Benefits Humanity

Can art unite and connect with oneself and others? How can art be therapeutic? Throughout human history, there are countless examples of the therapeutic and social uses of art. In ancient civilizations, highly detailed and complex monumental works were erected for ritualistic, psychological, and social purposes. Consider, for example, early manifestations of advanced art, such as the monoliths of Göbekli Tepe, Sumerian art, Ancient Egypt, and the hidden wonders of pre-Columbian Americas. The common element in all these civilizations is that art was seen not as a cure for specific illnesses but as a continuous approach to self-care.

This legacy is embraced by Keil Space’s philanthropic project, which aims to open the accessibility of artistic dialogue to everyone, allowing people to embark on a journey of self-discovery and connection with universal values through art.

The legacy of Advanced Art and new technologies come together to foster introspection and increase concentration, inducing emotional release and sensations of peace and tranquility. The therapeutic benefits of Keil Space’s artistic experience affect the cognitive and emotional spheres of individuals, as confirmed by the QDAS study analyzing visitor testimonies, highlighting how Sam Keil’s art can facilitate inner and social well-being.

Art and Healing

In “Using Creative Arts in Therapy” (1984), Bernie Warren, an emeritus professor from London and a researcher in performing arts and psychology, emphasizes the need for individual engagement with art to achieve well-being, individually and collectively. This is how the concept of “Arts for Health” was coined to indicate the benefits of participating in creative activities. By navigating the realm of beneficial art, individuals can “express their spark of humanity” – says Warren – leaving a mark that no one else could leave. What creative therapy can do is maintain the well-being of individuals, always aiming for society’s well-being. French sociologist and anthropologist Pierre Bourdieu, one of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century, considered the art world as a “space of relationships,” and it is precisely in this relationship that the proposal of creative therapy is situated. For Bourdieu, art is functional in “provoking and managing individual or collective encounters.” However, the current context, especially that of the mainstream art market, excludes most people from encountering artistic processes, and it is on processes, rather than the product, that the focus of art for healing lies.

The Union of Science, Art, and Psychology

To provide a scientific foundation for the benefits that Keil Space’s art brings to visitors, as anticipated by the testimonies mentioned above from specialists in psychotherapy and neuroaesthetics, an important data analytics study by the British company QDAS has been added to the research. The British company, a leader in qualitative data research, has worked with some of the world’s most prestigious universities, especially in England and America, and has also handled data analysis for important organizations such as the World Health Organization.

QDAS conducted a detailed analysis of data collected from the testimonies given by observers, coding them with state-of-the-art software. 500 people aged 17 to 80 and from all segments of society have shared their opinions about the experience they had at Keil Space. Among these are: senses, peace, relaxation, reflection, tranquility, and curiosity.

]]>
What is AI?

Today, AI is transforming everything from healthcare to entertainment, causing a significant shake-up in the creative industry, and forcing artists to rethink their careers and roles in this developing world.

Before now, we have exclusively celebrated the artist’s unique perspective. But can AI replace artists?

AI actively participates in the creative industry by creating beautiful artwork, designing innovative products, composing music, and even writing award-winning novels.

In the beginning, the rise of AI in art felt like an intrusion, a threat to the sanctity of human creativity, but now, artists struggle in an AI-driven world.

Artificial Intelligence, in simple terms, is about computer systems doing things that usually require human brains – like learning, solving problems, and understanding languages. When applied to art, these systems can help generate complete creative works based on human prompts or assist artists with details in their creative process.

How does AI work in art?

AI-generated art entangles algorithms that learn from existing artwork to create something further. These algorithms analyze patterns, colors, shapes, and styles from thousands or more pieces before generating their unique pieces. This process is often referred to as machine learning or deep learning.

AI-powered tools can produce content much faster and more affordably than humans. These tools continually improve, potentially leading to further wage decline, fewer job opportunities, and increased financial instability for the artists.

If robots can emulate or exceed human creativity, what becomes of an artist’s talent?

Art students are questioning the relevance of their education, the value of their skills, and future job prospects in an AI-dominated world. The necessity to continuously learn, adapt to new technologies, and stay ahead can be a source of stress and burnout.

Is Collaboration Between Artists and AI Possible?

AI creative tools rapidly advance in music, writing, visual arts, marketing, and beyond. Adaptation will be required, but it will not have to refuse human imagination and purpose. AI may contribute to art, similar to how platforms like WordPress, Godaddy, and Wix enable non-developers to create websites and influence the growth of the internet.

Moreover, the platforms allowed traditional developers to continue learning and developing new tools and features in the web space.

Instead of obliterating authentic art, AI may drive real artists to focus on meaningful messaging and growth.

Also, AI may help artists and designers overcome creative blocks by providing them with new ideas and inspiration. The algorithms can generate a wide range of possibilities, allowing artists to explore different directions and experiment with new styles. This can be particularly useful for artists who are looking to break free from their usual patterns and try something different.

The future holds the possibility for collaboration and coexistence between human and machine creativity although the path ahead challenges definitions of art. Nevertheless, we will recognize AI as a mere tool to expand opportunities.

The Role of Human Creativity in Art and Design

AI lacks an element that an algorithm cannot replicate, and that every artist possesses – human emotion. Art is not simply creating visually appealing pieces; it’s also about communicating feelings, telling stories, and expressing identity.

Human designers understand cultural nuances, historical contexts, and personal experiences – all these elements contribute to their creative process. They can sympathize with their audience and create designs that resonate on a deeper emotional level.

Likewise, AI cannot innovate or think outside the box like a human designer can. It doesn’t have personal experiences, intuition, or emotions to draw inspiration from, limiting its creative potential.

Humans are still needed for that.

So Will AI Replace Artists?

To answer this, we need to consider what makes art truly ‘art’.

Art means to make conscious decisions about what to create and how to create it. An artist’s choices in terms of color, composition, texture, and form are influenced by their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and cultural background. AI doesn’t possess these human qualities; it follows programmed algorithms.

There is a case to be made that it is the thought process itself that makes art, and that making art is impossible without conscious thought.

About Vicky Von Knorring

Vicky Von Knorring’s educational background is as diverse as her artistic expression. She studied at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts, delved into filmmaking at the Tisch School of Art (New York University), and earned a degree in architecture from Kingston University, London. At 18, Vicky embarked on a life-changing journey on the Trans-Siberian train to China. Her travels led her into the mountainous regions around Tibet, where she immersed herself in the tranquility of Buddhist monasteries, practicing yoga and meditation.

Raised in an environment steeped in art and culture, Vicky Von Knorring was exposed to exhibitions and museums from an early age. Her parents’ social circle included numerous artists and cultural influencers, fostering a rich creative atmosphere. Whether playing Robin Hood, acting in theater, or skiing, Vicky’s childhood was a blend of artistic immersion and active exploration.

Vicky’s heritage is a symbiosis of two distinct lineages. Her mother’s family, reminiscent of Finnish forest fairies, resonates with her deeply, while her father’s lineage traces back to the mythical Count Gustaf Mauritz Armfelt, adding a touch of historical intrigue to her identity.

Vicky Von Knorring’s Career background

After her studies, Vicky Von Knorring gained invaluable experience working in architecture offices in Tokyo and Switzerland. However, her passion for the audiovisual arts soon took over, leading her to direct music videos for industry giants such as Universal, Sony BMG, and Warner in Helsinki. This phase of her career was a prelude to her eventual move to the South of France, where she dedicated more time to her art.

Vicky’s work is a profound exploration of spiritualism in a cosmopolitan world, especially pertinent during these turbulent times marked by climate change and geopolitical tensions. Her art provides a sense of solace and introspection, resonating deeply with young people facing uncertainty.

The ‘Saint’, ‘Dopamine’ and ‘Genesis’ collections

A serendipitous meeting with her songwriter husband, Dominic Bugatti, at a conference in Cannes marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Relocating to the French Pyrenees, a region renowned for its mystical aura and miraculous sightings, particularly in Lourdes, Vicky drew deep inspiration from her surroundings.

This inspiration manifests powerfully in her ‘SAINT’ collection, where figures are depicted as pure energy or ‘aura,’ capturing the spiritual essence and making it universal. Her ‘DOPAMINE’ collection explores themes of transience and playfulness, akin to atoms in perpetual division. Her third collection, ‘GENESIS’, features abstract shapes in constant motion, creating a sense of flux. All three collections are characterized by evocative dark backgrounds embellished with diamond dust.

About Charlie Moon

Charlie (Charlotte) Moon began refining her craft in digital image editing and vector graphics software from a young age and later studied fashion design in Amsterdam, keeping her love for digital art alive.

Alongside her art, Charlie Moon founded an international business focused on social media and content creation. Using her skills in storytelling and digital platforms, she helps businesses and individuals create engaging content that connects with people worldwide.

Charlie Moon

Hello Charlie. When or how have you understood you wanted to become an artist?

I was born for this.

Can you briefly tell us about your technique and what drives you to make art?

I’m hypersensitive to shapes and colors. When I’m experiencing an emotion and close my eyes, I see shapes and colors related to the emotion. Sometimes I paint, sometimes I draw digitally, sometimes I prompt. Technique rooms in being intuitive. I am addicted to colors and shapes as I can go hard on them!

Charlie Moon

What is the main feature that has changed in your works or practice throughout the years?

I went from traditional painting to digital drawing and now I am into prompting. I LOVE technology and its developments!

Which artist primarily inspires your work? And is there something else, outside visual arts, that keeps you motivated?

I never get inspired by other artists. I get motivated by femininity, animals, and nature. And the power within humans. Mama-earth is my source. It sounds like a clichè, but it’s true.

How would you like people to engage with your work?

I want to offer people the same feeling I get from shapes and colors. It’s dopamine!

Spread the word! Do you have anything exciting on the horizon?

I will sell NFTs via Foundation soon and start presenting my work in the first-ever virtual museum in the Metaverse.
