About Otto Baum

Otto Baum (b. 1979, East Berlin) studied textile and surface design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, and now lives and works in Berlin.

He is currently creating stunning videos of himself making murals, usually large format, geometric and monochromatic while testing his latest OttoTools. OttoTools are his investigation of trying out various everyday tools for large-format painting mediums. He usually uses wooden slats, a few brushes, and screws and combines them into a new painting tool.

Hand lettering and abstract painting

Otto holds multiple accounts for his art practice, ranging from prints to objects to murals and letterforms. He calls a project of much of his hand lettering work “Wallphabets,” a hybrid of alphabets written directly onto walls. For him, it’s about the craft itself, the shape of the letters, and transferring them analogously to the wall, so he practices his skills with the brush to draw these beautiful writings by hand.

Baum is fascinated by simple forms, the feel, and the structure of materials such as wood and paper. He is interested in how unpredictable analog printing techniques such as linocuts or monotypes can be.

Artist Statement

He continues: “My inspiration for Toy Faces comes from my love of toys and the memories they bring. Toys have a unique ability to transport us back to when life was simpler and full of wonder. With each Toy Face, I aim to tap into that sense of childlike curiosity and create a connection between the viewer and the subject.

Toy Face is a reminder of the power of simplicity in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming and chaotic. I hope Toy Face brings the viewer comfort and joy, reminding us that there is always room for playfulness in our lives.”

About the UART MEDIA FEST

The UART MEDIA FEST serves as a wellspring of inspiration and brings joy, particularly during these trying times for Ukraine. The gathering not only bathes life in brilliance but also commemorates the fortitude and indomitable spirit of Ukraine. UART aspires to bolster Ukrainian culture and art amidst these challenging circumstances while engaging the global creative community in this endeavor.

The occasion will be underscored by a charitable initiative during the celebratory concert featuring luminaries from the Ukrainian entertainment sphere. Through this collective effort, they aim to extend support to one of Ukraine’s humanitarian missions.

UART MEDIA FEST is organized by the Gulliver multifunctional complex, which has the largest facade screens in Europe, in cooperation with the international company MEET FUTURE.

Motion designers, 3D visual, and light designers are invited to participate in the international multimedia contest and festival UART MEDIA FEST 2024. Contestants may win grants to develop their projects and have an opportunity to showcase their videos on the largest facade screens in Europe for thousands of festival visitors. The participants may compete in two areas: tech-heavy media art and digital & crypto-art.

Why Participate to the UART MEDIA FEST

The festival will take place on the 5th of October, 2024 in the heart of Kyiv, Ukraine. The works of talented motion designers from all over the world will be showcased to thousands of visitors on the large facade screens. The final screening of the participants’ works on the screens of the Gulliver multifunctional complex will take place on the 5th of October, 2024.

The winners, who will be determined by eminent industry representatives, will receive grants for the further development of their projects. The two winners of the UART MEDIA FEST competition will receive an award of $3000 for the best video and $1000 for NFT and the opportunity to cooperate with MEET FUTURE, i.e. the opportunity to present their work on the largest international media platforms.

Creative studios or individual designers can submit their video works that were created before or create content specifically for the festival. The topic of the second UART MEDIA FEST is “The Universe in Everyone”. For more information about participation and conditions, follow the link.

Gulliver shopping mall always strives to be at the forefront of cultural and social events. We are pleased to organize such an innovative festival, which confirms our status as a leading cultural center of the capital. Together with our partners MEET FUTURE, we continue to write the creative history of the country together, telling about our endless possibilities. Kateryna Zhurakivska, Marketing Director of the Gulliver shopping mall, comments. MEET FUTURE, the international company, the expert and trendsetter in innovative technologies and events, has become the organizational and executive partner of UART MEDIA FEST. The festival will be part of the big birthday celebration of the Gulliver shopping center, which celebrates 11 years in October. The event will combine traditional art and digital installations of the future, united by the topic of artificial intelligence.

UART MEDIA FEST was the first event of this scale in Ukraine, which took place in October 2023 in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Gulliver shopping mall. The festival attracted both national and international audiences: 22 artists from different countries took part in the contest, and their works were seen by 1000 festival visitors offline and 4000 viewers during online translation. All works were distinguished by their unique style and concept, but were united by the theme “The Light in Everyone”. This event became the starting point for a new format of cultural events in the country, combining contemporary art and digital tools of the future.

UART MEDIA FEST has won the 14th edition of the Eventex Awards 2024, the world’s most prestigious marketing award.

Digital Painting

Painting is an emotional medium for Bang, employed whenever he feels happy or depressed. He draws more often when he wants to escape daily strain or distracting thoughts. The organic form and psychedelic colors reflect the best representation of Bang’s unconscious feelings.

Bang produces everything manually when it comes to personal work by transferring all the random images that pass through his head onto paper. He usually creates his artwork using digital tools, but he will never deny the pencil stroke. Bang values manual sketching and will always consider this his first creative action. After the sketch satisfies his ideas, he will finalize it digitally and then paint it. Recently, I’ve felt uncomfortable with digital work’s textures and expressions. Thus, I have been creating digital work and works by hand, such as acrylic paintings, at the same time.

About Charlie Moon

Charlie (Charlotte) Moon began refining her craft in digital image editing and vector graphics software from a young age and later studied fashion design in Amsterdam, keeping her love for digital art alive.

Alongside her art, Charlie Moon founded an international business focused on social media and content creation. Using her skills in storytelling and digital platforms, she helps businesses and individuals create engaging content that connects with people worldwide.

Charlie Moon

Hello Charlie. When or how have you understood you wanted to become an artist?

I was born for this.

Can you briefly tell us about your technique and what drives you to make art?

I’m hypersensitive to shapes and colors. When I’m experiencing an emotion and close my eyes, I see shapes and colors related to the emotion. Sometimes I paint, sometimes I draw digitally, sometimes I prompt. Technique rooms in being intuitive. I am addicted to colors and shapes as I can go hard on them!

Charlie Moon

What is the main feature that has changed in your works or practice throughout the years?

I went from traditional painting to digital drawing and now I am into prompting. I LOVE technology and its developments!

Which artist primarily inspires your work? And is there something else, outside visual arts, that keeps you motivated?

I never get inspired by other artists. I get motivated by femininity, animals, and nature. And the power within humans. Mama-earth is my source. It sounds like a clichè, but it’s true.

How would you like people to engage with your work?

I want to offer people the same feeling I get from shapes and colors. It’s dopamine!

Charlie Moon Charlie Moon

Spread the word! Do you have anything exciting on the horizon?

I will sell NFTs via Foundation soon and start presenting my work in the first-ever virtual museum in the Metaverse.

5 NFT Artists of 2023 it is worth following

There are many NFT Artists of 2023 to mention, but as the year is ending, fellows of the NFT space look forward to a vast assortment of unique art from some of Web3’s most noteworthy creators.

The following is a selection of NFT artists we believe caused an impact in 2023.

These NFT Artists of 2023 are creators from disparate sectors of the NFT market to help readers diversify their social feeds over the next year, and each is a creator of culture that deserves to be recognized.

Cath Simard

Cath Simard is a Canadian-born photographer, digital artist and a central figure in the NFT community. One of the most prominent artists in NFT photography, she’s now almost entirely focused on NFTs.

Simard blends reality and imagination in her landscape composites. Collectors instantly recognize her aesthetic – surreal, cold, blue, mountain nights. Her innovative style and willingness to take bold risks are a result of her desire to be unique.

A self-professed introvert, Cath feels she produces her best work when she’s alone in the mountains.

To create a single image, she’s walked as much as 250 kilometers, trekked 18 days in the mountains and shot at an elevation as high as 5,900 meters. Due to her lengthy creative process, Cath only creates and releases 5-7 images a year.

She created the world’s first image to have its rights released after its 1/1 NFT sale on the blockchain: #freehawaiiphoto. As one of the top NFT artists in the world, Simard has continued to advocate for fair compensation and recognition for artists while also using her imaginative composite images to raise environmental awareness. Having been auctioned off by both Sotheby’s and Christie’s in 2022, she is surely poised to continue her admirable mission over the next year.

Daniel Isles (Dirty Robot)

Daniel Isles is a UK born illustrator based in Hokkaido, Japan. His preferred tools are pencil and ink, which allow him to create clean lines in a unique style.

He is deeply inspired by eastern and western cultures, that he combines to great effect to create highly original pieces. The focus of his work often depicts characters wearing interestingly-cool attire in moments of time. There is also a sense of spirituality about them and the world they inhabit.

He continues achieving sizeable sales throughout the entire year with his own 1/1s, making him a definite one to follow in 2023.

Emonee LaRussa

Emonee LaRussa, a 27-year-old digital artist from Sacramento, California, made visuals for Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, and the Internet. Today, her colorful, psychedelic animations are part of the GRAMMYS x OneOf NFT partnership.

You might recognize her from her YouTube channel, her Emmy Award-winning animation, or the excellent tutorial she did for some online MoGraph school. Emonee is also the founder and CEO of Pamanama Studios LLC., an animation studio specializing in music visuals by diverse digital artists, specifically artists of color.

Grant Yun

Grant Yun is a man of many hats.

Despite being a medical student by day and a break dancer by night, the Milwaukee resident has managed to make his mark on the digital art market with six-figure sales and auctions at Christie’s and Sotheby’s. His Neo-Precisionist artwork frequently explores landscapes and scenery native to the Midwest and has become instantly recognizable in the NFT space.

In 2022, Grant Yun emerged as somewhat of a poster child for fine art NFTs. While he insists that his entrance into the NFT space was somewhat of a leap of faith, his Neo-Precisionist style continues to stand out in the now PFP-saturated NFT market.

A post shared by The Grant Yun Collection (@grantyun2)

Markus Magnusson

In the same vein as Bad Robot, the 2022 PFP market would’ve been nothing without digital artist and animator Markus Magnusson. Known professionally as Motion Markus, his slick, clean animation style has garnered hundreds of thousands of fans across social media. Although his 1/1s consistently fetch a pretty penny, Magnusson is best known in the NFT space as the creator of the popular large-scale generative avatar collection Invisible Friends. With his new project Garbage Friends on the horizon, his sway within the PFP NFT market has only seemed to increase, prompting countless imitators to follow in his footsteps.

Creative Investigations

His art investigates the most powerful human feelings, such as love and loss. Catello’s characters are usually faceless, a choice to show how an individual’s look cannot tell a story as much as lighting, posture, shape, and color. This way, his humanoid figures may look like models for a tech-digital experiment. Indeed, a permanent leitmotiv of his works relies upon the question: How human are we?

By examining topics of this depth, Catello represents both the utopic and the dystopic perception, leaving the viewer free of interpretation. His art is an aesthetic manifestation of human feelings, moved by the day-to-day of his life; that might be a chat or a melody, always something that prompts him, and, through this articulation of the non-human, we get to see the human. His humanoids live in an ethereal space with no time to highlight his dilemma of belonging or not to this world.
